According to government data released in September 2020, India recorded an average of 87 rape cases daily. The country recorded overall 4,05,861 cases of crimes against women in 2019.

Law Student’s Perspective

‘The initial step in stopping crime against women is to change the mindset of society,” said Brij Bhanu, a 19-year-old rapper. The Lucknow resident added that we here in hip hop try to raise the smallest of the issues and every rapper has once in his career has rapped about the women assaults.

Broj a law student, stressed the importance of sex education and said,” Sex has always been considered as a taboo, the perception needs to change, sex education must be a part of our education curriculum”.

Brij while sharing a childhood incident realized that the clerk at their school used to touch children inappropriately. Brij added, “At that time I wasn’t aware about the good or bad touch “.

Brij said that “There are many people who still aren’t aware of bad touch or sex because whenever the topic is raised by the children in the family the mouth of every elder goes hush”. In this modern world of digitalization, spreading awareness is not a hard task. It is time to take measures to raise sex education awareness.

Importance of Sex Education

I cannot stress enough the importance of sex education in the development of human mindsets. We need to change the perception of any gender as the dominant gender. The Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health Education (ASRH programme) was introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 2005. The central government issued the programme in 2006. 12 states outright banned the programme, deeming it "inappropriate," while the rest adopted it in various forms, retaining just the aspects that were relevant to them.

A Study by UNICEF

A study conducted by the Indian Ministry of Women and Child Development and carried out by UNICEF and Prayas revealed that 53 per cent of children between the age of 5 and 12 have been sexually abused. Brij while sharing a childhood incident realized that the clerk at their school used to touch children inappropriately.

There are many people who still aren’t aware of bad touch or sex because whenever the topic is raised by the children in the family the mouth of every elder goes “hush”.

What Is Bad Touch?

Bad touch is often referred to as the touch on someone’s private parts. What people fail to understand is an individual’s whole body is his own and touch any part of it without consent is a bad touch. If you feel uncomfortable when a stranger comes to pull of your cheeks, that’s it that’s bad touch.

Conclusion

Children need to be taught about the concept of bad touch, and we, as adults, must understand that any contact or action that makes someone feel uncomfortable is a bad touch, regardless of gender or age. I genuinely hope that home sex education becomes a core study curriculum, and even if it does not, I encourage parents to provide sex education to their children on their own. They tolerate green vegetables already, but they are not educated to tolerate abuse.
