The legendary novelist Ernest Hemmingway once said, "There is no friend as loyal as a book." Indeed! Our best friends are books. In the company of books, we can never be bored. Aside from that, books are always a good way to learn new things. You'll be relieved to learn that if we personify books, they'd say the same thing about Radhamani, a 63-year-old woman from Wayanad, Kerala, India! "There is no book friend as devoted as Radhamani." Let's take a look at Radhamani's Inspirational Story!

I don't understand why women are still not taken seriously in the twenty-first century! When they achieve something, why is it such a shock? We should be proud of her accomplishments not because she is a woman, but because she has the ability and talent to do so! Thinking along those lines, I believe, reveals our illiteracy! In any case, Radhamani, the senior lady, is far above such arbitrary classifications! She is a powerful woman whose name conjures up images of a burning desire to read!

Inspirational Story of Radhamani

Unlike the ones we see in movies and read about in books, Radhamani has a real-life inspirational success story that deserves to be told. So here I am, attempting to do justice to her heroic efforts. Let's take a look at her inspiring story, which has touched many people's hearts.

Radhamani: The Walking Library!

In the Wayanad Hills, Radhamani K.P is affectionately known as the Walking Library. She lives in the Wayanad town of Mothakarra in the Vellamunda district. It's been eight years since she took over the role of Walking Library at the Pratibha Public Library in her village from her senior. Her job as the walking Library is to deliver books to book lovers' homes. Radhamani enjoys her work. Every day, she walks about 6 kilometres and distributes books for people to read for Rs.5/-.

Her passion turned into a career!

She was born in Vazhoor village in Kottayam and attended school until class X, but the books she read in school helped her develop a passion for reading. In 1961, her neighbour took her to the inauguration of the new Pratibha Public Library building. She had no idea she would be hired there. Then, in 1971, she married. Padmanabhan Nambiar, her husband, runs a small business. KP Rajilesh, his son, works as an auto-rickshaw driver! She was fortunate to be able to turn her passion into a rewarding career!

The flag bearer of Women's Liberation!

She began her work in 2012 as a result of the tribals' inability to travel a long distance to the library. The books were also pricey. As a result, Radhamani decided to reach out to them and remove any barriers that were keeping them from reading! She sends out about 500 books per month. She believes that women should seize every opportunity to advance in life!

Walking is good for Health!

To deliver the books, Radhamani walks through the topsy-turvy terrains of Wayanad. "Many people ask me why I don't use a vehicle to deliver the books," she says. Walking and nature are the two reasons! Walking is beneficial to one's health. To be honest, I am healthy because I am physically active. Why use a car and contribute to pollution when I can easily walk! As a result, I go for a walk to deliver the books!

Plan to Focus on Women!

The library was founded in 1961, but it was only recently that it became possible for people to join it on a regular basis, particularly for women! "The Kerala State Council Library has launched a special campaign to connect women with books and libraries! If women are unable to visit the library, the library must come to them! This initiative began with women in mind, but now I'm getting books from children and the elderly as well."
