Pitbull's Childhood

Armando Christian Pérez was born on January 15, 1981, in Miami, Florida, to Cuban immigrant parents. He is a first-generation American citizen. His family encouraged him to "take advantage" of the advantages of growing up in America and the opportunities that came with it. His family has a history of opposing the Castro regime in Cuba.

When he was three years old, he could recite in Spanish the works of José Marti, Cuba's national hero and poet.

He acquired English as a child by watching Sesame Street. His father was mostly absent from his childhood because his parents divorced when he was young, he was mostly raised by his mother, whom he later referred to as "my father and mother." He spent some time with a foster family in Roswell, Georgia. His parents struggled with substance abuse, and as a teenager, he was involved in drug use and dealing, leading to his expulsion from the family home. He attended South Miami Senior High School and Miami Coral Park High School.

As a child, he was influenced by Miami bass pop music, claiming Celia Cruz and Willy Chirino as influences, as well as rappers Nas, Jay-Z, and Snoop Dogg. He credits Miami's "melting pot" of a city with exposing him to many different cultures and imparting important life lessons in him, implying that he would not be the person he is now if it weren't for his upbringing there.

Because of the dog "To lock, bite," he adopted the stage name Pitbull. To be vanquished, the dog is just too dumb. They're also prohibited in Dade County. I am essentially nothing without them. It's been an endless battle." After meeting Lil Jon and the East Side Boyz in Miami in 2002, Pitbull was featured on their album Kings of Crunk. Pitbull's song "Oye" was featured on the soundtrack of the film 2 Fast 2 Furious the following year. Pitbull also put out a number of mixtapes with freestyles and remixes of popular rap tracks.
