Armando Christian Pérez was born on January 15, 1981, in Miami, Florida, to Cuban immigrant parents. He is a first-generation American citizen. His family encouraged him to "take advantage" of the advantages of growing up in America and the opportunities that came with it. His family has a history of opposing the Castro regime in Cuba.
When he was three years old, he could recite in Spanish the works of José Marti, Cuba's national hero and poet.
He acquired English as a child by watching Sesame Street. His father was mostly absent from his childhood because his parents divorced when he was young, he was mostly raised by his mother, whom he later referred to as "my father and mother." He spent some time with a foster family in Roswell, Georgia.
