Greetings, Harry Potter! Yes, indeed! This one word opens up a whole new world of magic for us! It transports us to the fantastic Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and its three musketeers - Ron, Hermione, and the brilliant Harry! There are so many scenes that stick with you and make your heart sing when you think about them! I'm not a big fan of English films. Because of my twin nephews, I saw "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." They had read the book and were looking forward to seeing the movie! And after watching it, I was just as excited as they were!
Even at the time, I wondered how someone could come up with such a unique fantasy! It was both unique and heartwarming! Platform 9 and 34 for the Hogwarts Express, and the strangest of ways to board it! It was completely out of this world! How could anyone think that and convince others of it? But she could because JK Rowling is JK Rowling!
JK Rowling on the Rise!
JK Rowling is the pen name of Joanne Rowling, a British author and philanthropist who was born on July 31, 1965, in the lovely town of Yate near Bristol, England. She is the mastermind behind Harry Potter's creation. From 1997 to 2007, this iconic seven-volume children's fantasy series was published and enjoyed worldwide acclaim! The novel series was later adapted into memorable films by none other than Warner Brothers, becoming a worldwide sensation! Such is the enchantment of Rowling's writing abilities!
We all know the story of the enigmatic Harry Potter and his two friends, but few know about Rowling's personal struggles, heartaches, and emotional upheavals while writing this masterpiece. Harry Potter is also known as Joanne Rowling's to JK Rowling's culmination!
Joanne Rowling is Anne and Peter James Rowling's eldest daughter. Her younger sister is Dianne. Her parents were both members of the Royal Naval Services! Her parents met on a train on their way from London to Scotland for their postings. They were both from middle-class families. They later quit their jobs and married in Yate to raise their child! Peter has opened a grocery store!
J K Rowling's family relocated to the small village of Winterbourne in Gloucestershire when he was five years old. It's worth noting that their next-door neighbours were the Potters! She really liked the name! As a result, it's no surprise that this name became the cornerstone of her dreams!
Rabbit's First Encounter with the Art of Writing!
Anne, Joanne's mother, was a huge inspiration to her. Anne adored reading, and even more so, she adored reading stories to her children. Joanne was inspired by the author Richard Scarry's animal stories, and she made her first attempt by writing a short story titled 'Rabbit!' She was six years old when she wrote this story in which the creatures from Scarry's books became her muse!
When she was nine years old, her family relocated to another village, Tutshill, and she was admitted to the Church of England School. She recalls an incident in class where she received low marks on the Arithmetic test.
The Seven Cursed Diamonds: The Emergence of a Daydreamer!
She became a member of the Brownies. This group performed at parties dressed as fairies, pixies, and sprites. They presented a magical world to distract them from Sylvia Morgan's harshness. She wrote another short story, "The Seven Cursed Diamonds," when she was eleven years old! She described herself as "short and squat, thick National Health glasses living in a world of complete daydreams" during this period.
Secondary Education: Artist Traits Revealed!
Rowling received her secondary education at Wyedean School and College. But she was tormented in this place. Every dark cloud, however, has a silver lining, and Rowling found her guiding light in her favourite teacher Lucy Shepherd, who taught her the nuances of writing! She yearned to play an electric guitar at this age! Joanne was both shy and intelligent, according to her autobiographer, Smith! Her teachers were impressed by her imaginative abilities! During her adolescence, she read the books of civil rights activist Jessica Mitford, who became her idol. She read a lot of her own books.
Mother's Influence and the Art of Storytelling!
Rowling was heavily influenced by her mother. Her mother, Anne, and sister, Dianne, were always supportive. Dianne was accepted at the same school, and Anne took a job there to help support her daughters. They used to talk about the events of the day on their way home from school. They were more of a sisterhood than a mother-daughter relationship.
The Dark Period!
Rowling was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis as a child. She had to quit her job, and their lives were filled with sadness. Joanne had a strained relationship with her father. She wrote in 2020 that her father would have preferred a son. It was excruciatingly painful for her. She became afflicted with a severe behavioural disorder.
