The Registrar of the Newspapers of India (RNI) is the one who registers all publications, including magazines and newspapers in India according to the requirements of the Press Act and Registration of Books Act, 1867. RNI was founded in 1956 based on the advice from the First Press Commission, and every magazine in the country are required to register with RNI prior to launching their publications. RNI maintains the Register of Newspapers containing particulars of every newspaper. The organization also issues an official Certificate of Registration for newspapers. RNI collaborates in conjunction with the District Magistrates' Office to inform them about the titles available.

Verification of Title

Title Verification

First step to have the title checked and approved. The application form for verification of title can be found through the RNI website. The publisher must submit an application for a title to the RNI with the following information:

Name of the newspaper or magazine

Owner's name

The language that it will be distributed

The frequency of publication (daily weekly, monthly, etc.)

The publication area of the journal

The form for application is sent at the District Magistrate's office, which examines the credentials for the person applying. When the RNI confirms the existence for the title that has been verified the title is made accessible to be registered. A list of registered titles is also accessible via the RNI website. After a title has been verified then it is assigned to the person who applied for it for a maximum that is two years. A valid title is blocked after two years, if it's not registered. The documents must be submitted again. A title is also double-checked for its publication in various languages.
