Martin Luther King Jr. He is the inspiration behind America's civil rights movement. He is the man we know today because of his achievements and ability to address serious social issues. Although he was far before many of us, his contributions to society continue to be significant and should be commended. A federal holiday was established in his honor to celebrate his birthday. Who was Martin Luther King Jr.
He was the son of MartinLuther King Sr., and AlbertaWilliams King. King Jr. was an American minister ( Baptist minister), who became an activist. He was one the most prominent spokespersons at that time. There was a lot done to African-Americans living in America during his time there. He was the one who liberated them and granted them their rights. His civil rights movements were inspired Mahatma Singh. His Christian faith played an important role in his social activism career. Although his career and life were brief, his ideology will last forever. He was originally called Michael. However, Martin became his full name in later years. He received his doctorate in 1953, and he completed it two years later. He met Coretta Scott while he was in Boston to get his doctorate. He fell in love with her artistic and intellectual abilities. They were married and had four children, two daughters and two boys. Martin was elected president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957! He marched in Washington, D. C. He then gave the world-famous speech "I Have a Dream" and was presented with five honorary degrees. His life was ended when he was assassinated at Memphis, Tennessee on 4 April 1968. Although he may not be with us now, his principles will remain.

To celebrate Martin Luther King's birthday, the third Monday in each month is chosen. This holiday was first established by Roger Reagan in 1983. This holiday was finally established in law after almost three years. MLK Day 2000 was celebrated in all 50 states. It must have been a historic moment!
MLK Day was last year celebrated on January 18, and this year it will be celebrated today (January 17th). It will be observed on the 16th and 15th of January in 2023, 2024 and 2024 respectively.
