Russia Ukraine Conflict

In 2021 and 20, Russia's military buildup at Ukraine's borders escalated tensions. The US sent a clear message to Russia that an invasion would have devastating consequences for its economy. These are the causes of the Russia Ukraine conflict.

  • Although tensions between Russia, Ukraine and a former Soviet republic existed for some time the situation started to spiral out of control in 2021. The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged Joe Biden the US to allow Ukraine to join NATO last January.
  • Russia demanded that the West give a legally binding guarantee to NATO that it will not conduct military operations within Ukraine or eastern Europe. Vladimir Putin asserts that Ukraine is a Western puppet, and never was a legitimate state.
  • Tensions between Russia, Ukraine and other countries have been rising for a while. Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014. This was after rebels supported by President Putin took large swathes of eastern Ukraine. Since then, it has been fighting Ukraine’s army. Russia had annexed Crimea during that time.
  • Ukraine is a former Soviet republic and has strong cultural and social ties to Russia. Russian is widely spoken in Ukraine. However, these ties have been strained since Russia's invasion of 2014.
  • Russia launched an attack on Ukraine in 2014 after the deposal of Ukraine's proRussian president. The war in the East has claimed the lives of more than 14,000 people.
  • Russia and Ukraine had signed Minsk to end the conflict in eastern Ukraine, including the Donbas. As the conflict continues, Russia claims it is sending peacekeepers to the area where the conflict is raging. It is seen by the West as a plot to seize sovereign territory.
  • The EU has been affected by the recurrent conflict between Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, which is bordered by the EU. The EU, which is a majority NATO signatory, joined the US in imposing sanctions on Russian entities.
  • Just a few weeks back, the French President Emmanuel Macron flew from France to Moscow to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin to try to ease tensions.
  • India called for a diplomatic solution in the current Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

The Wild Fields are a famous name for the Donetsk region and Luhansk in Ukraine. Together they make up the Donbas. Donbas stands for Donets Coal Basin. These towns are located on the banks River Donets which is the centre of coal deposits. The growth of steel production is greatly aided by the coal reserves. John Hughes, a businessman, founded Donetsk when he constructed coal mines in Cossack village in 1869. Despite being an industrial area of the Donbas, you will be charmed by its theatres and planetariums.

The Architectural Magnificence in Ukraine!

Ukraine's architecture is one of its greatest assets, but it is in grave danger due to the current war situation. The leaders don't realize the extent of this destruction that would only destroy the beauty and rich heritage of the region. A war does not always produce a positive outcome. It leaves behind ashes of hatred and hostility.

Ukrainian Architecture holds a special place in Europe's history. It is characterized by its unique style and artistic brilliance. It has been influenced by many architectural trends over the years, from the Romanesque to Post Modern architecture. The magnificent monuments of Ukraine are living proofs of the immense talent and expertise of master architects.

It is one of the most important shrines of Orthodoxy in Ukraine. This masterpiece was created by Baroque Stepan Kovnir, a master craftsman. It is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The monastery boasts stunning examples of Ukrainian Baroque architecture, including a cathedral, cave systems, and bell towers.

House of Chimaeras, Kyiv

Ukraine: Rich in Natural Resources!

Natural Gas

Ukraine is a country with a wealth of natural resources. Ukraine has the second largest gas reserves in the entire world. It also outscores its contemporaries from the Natural Gas department! It is home to 1.09 trillion cubic meters natural gas, second only to Norway. It may be difficult to believe that a country with so much natural gas would need to import it. The reason is that the USSR began large-scale gas extraction in Siberia in 1970! Russia now has the responsibility for gas production and exploration. The Ukraine's resources are thus left unexploited.

Minerals and Precious Metals

Ukraine has a large amount of Natural Gas reserves. It is also rich in minerals like iron, coal, and other non-metallic raw material such as corn, seed oils, ironore, etc. It also has a lot of Precious metals such as Lithium and Titanium. Ukraine has large reserves of titanium, which is used in aerospace and surgical equipment. Ukraine is home to 20% of the world's Titanium Ore Reserves. Large quantities of lithium used in electric vehicle (EV) batteries are found in Ukraine. It's also used to treat depression. The Lithium fields can be found in Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Kirovohrad.

Export of Grain!

Russian aggression is also threatening Food Security. Ukraine is a major exporter and importer of wheat and corn. Russia would annexe the export department. The main beneficiaries of Ukraine's food supplies are West Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Ukraine's Grain Exports are a major part of its economy. This crisis would have a devastating impact on Ukraine's real wealth.

Conclusion!

War! Although it is a three-letter word, it can have the power to destroy the world. It is hard to imagine the suffering of Ukrainian countrymen in this Russia–Ukraine war! It's a battle between the Mighty & the Meek! It looks like Might will win. In reality, however, it's the humble Ukraine that has risen gracefully to the hearts of the rest of the world. It is admirable that they have stood firm and held on to their position with courage. Their Anthem is -
